The Destination

Monaco

It may be the second smallest country on the planet (behind only the Vatican City), but Monaco is an extreme example that size isn’t everything. This minute principality, stretching a mere 2.2km² in the midst of the Cote D’Azur, is a world-famous playground for the rich and famous – and its Grand Prix is almost unquestionably the most extravagant on the calendar. The Circuit de Monaco runs through the heart of the city, as every street in the country closes over race weekend to let the show unfurl. Hundreds of yachts line the harbour as racegoers clamour for any space available on course balconies, mounts and grandstands. The most technically challenging circuit of the year too, this really is a box office sporting masterpiece.

Those wanting to see Monaco’s full offering need to commence their trip prior to the race weekend. Other attractions do rather shut down when tens of thousands of visitors turn up with Formula One on the brain. Providing it is a quieter day, the Prince’s Palace is a great place to start sight-seeing. Rich with historical quirks including several redevelopments, extensions and even fortification, parts of the palace can be seen first-hand on an exclusive tour. The changing of the guard is also a daily occurrence, acting as perfect pre-lunch viewing.

Top Grandstand Viewing picks:

We recommend any of the options below to enhance your viewing experience.  All suggestions include a view of one of the giant screens.

P,N, O, K, L, T High

Terraces are worth it but only if you go with an approved operator, many private terraces are oversold and guests may struggle to see the track, play it safe and book with the experts.

The Harbour Yachts,  an unbelievable experience from start to finish.  Experience fine dining whilst moderately indulging in unlimited champagne, beer and Spirits.  The best part however is that the boats cannot re-dock until at least 1 hour after the end of the race meaning you need to carry on the party late into the evening.  If this really is a bucket list event for you, this is the way to do it.
